BABBLE – November 2017 Public Meeting Notes
Our Nov 09, 2017 meeting was held at Perfect Brewing Supply, Libertyville (perfectbrewsupply.com). Thanks to Andy & Ryan for their continued support. Always a great variety of interesting homebrews shared, among them: A Belgian Wit (with toasted Coriander), a Coconut/Coffee/Blonde Ale, an English Strong, a mead in three variations: the original, with raspberries added, and with raisins added; and a tangerine Rye. Plus an assortment of commercial craft brews.
Next Formal Meeting – DEC 14, 2017 (Nov/Dec meetings are the second Thursday of the month, rather than 4th Thursday of the month, to avoid conflicts with the holidays) – Plan on Perfect Brewing Supply, but watch the site if we decide to mix things up from time to time.
10 members in attendance, with 1 guest,
Bulk Honey Buy – We have #13 of Orange Blossom Honey remaining, after opening to outside sales. The remaining raspberry honey will be retained by the club.
Barrels – A Rye Barrel – Pat D to use for mead? Jay has a Whiskey barrel avail, We have a 53 Gallon Barrel at Buffalo Creek which we plan to empty on NOV 18th – so make plans if you have beer to draw from that barrel.
Water Test Kit – The club has purchased a water test kit and pH meter, so members can have their water tested (which may vary throughout the year, depending o source) for a nominal fee ($5).
Canning Starters – Some more discussion of brewing up some starter wort, and canning it (actual cans, not glass ‘canning process’) using the equipment at Perfect Brewing Supply. Still in “investigate” stage.
Club Jockey Box – Bill W will work through the foaming problems that have been reported, and also set up a portable unit for flushing the lines that can be kept with the box.
Brew-Off 2018 – Mike Marr will host us at Buffalo Creek Brewing, Saturday, March 3rd, and we will have a judging session at R’Noggin (Friday night?). This is our AHA sanctioned competition, last year we had 185 entries judged and 106 registered participants, judges, and stewards.
Planning Milwaukee Bus Tour – Sat – Jan 20th – Tentatively, ~ $40 each for the bus, assuming we get ~ 20 people interested. Will likely leave ~ 11AM, with a stop for dinner, and plan to be back ~ 10 PM. Members can follow our forum for details/updates.
Winter Dinner – February? Details TBD.
The Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Brew Fest Feb 23/24 – There was lots of interest in this fest. No plans right now as a club, but you might want to make plans among yourselves if interested in attending:
